Boy dies by home dryer
By MARTA MURVOSH

BURLINGTON - A 7-year-old boy was killed Thursday night, apparently by an electric shock while chasing a kitten behind a dryer in the family
home.

The boy's name was not released this morning and the exact cause of death was to be determined at an autopsy today, said police Sgt.
Guy Hanson.

"We are looking at electrical shock," Hanson said.

The boy's parents called police around 6:20 p.m. Thursday to report him missing. While his mother telephoned, his father continued to
search their home and found him, Hanson said.

Hanson said interviews with family members and other evidence indicates the boy was chasing one of the family's two kittens and went
behind the dryer where he apparently touched a 220-volt outlet and a metal duct. The investigation continued today.

The striped kitten was found alive in a corner behind the dryer when police arrived at the family's home in the 900 block of E. Sharon Ave.,
Hanson said.

The boy attended nearby Lucille Umbarger Elementary where counselors today were available to counsel any students or staff who are
affected by the boy's death, Hanson said.
What Makes A Mother

I thought of you and closed my eyes
And prayed to God today
I asked "What makes a Mother?"
And I know I heard him say
A Mother has a baby
This we know is true
But, God, can you be a mother
When your baby's not with you?

Yes, you can he replied
With confidence in his voice
I give many women babies
When they leave it is not their choice
Some I send for a lifetime
And others for the day
And some I send to feel your womb
But there's no need to stay.

I just don't understand this God
I want my baby here

He took a breath
and cleared his throat
And then I saw a tear
I wish I could show you
What your child is doing today
If you could see your child smile
With other children and say
"We go to earth to learn our lessons
of love and life and fear
My mommy loved me so much
I got to come straight here
I feel so lucky to have a Mom who
had so much love for
me
I learned my lessons very quickly
My Mommy set me free.

I miss my Mommy oh so much
But I visit her each day
When she goes to sleep
On her pillows where I lay
I stroke her hair and kiss her cheek
And whisper in her ear
Mommy don't be sad today
I'm your baby and I am here"

So you see my dear sweet one
Your children are okay
Your babies are here in My home
And this is where they'll stay
They'll wait for you with Me
Until your lessons are through
And on the day you come home
they'll be at the gates for you

So now you see
What makes a Mother
It's the feeling in your heart
It's the love you had so much of
Right from the very start
Though some on earth
May not realize
Until their time is done
Remember all the love you have
And know that you are
A Special Mom

Name released of boy who was electrocuted
By
MARTA MURVOSH

BURLINGTON
— Authorities released the name Friday of a 7-year-old boy who was electrocuted
behind a dryer.

Casey Pritchard was accidentally killed by a high-voltage electrocution, said Skagit County
Coroner Bruce Bacon. He is survived by his parents, Brad and Sherry Pritchard.

Police said the boy's father found him shortly after his mother reported him missing at 6:20 p.m.
Thursday.

Interviews with family members and other evidence indicates Casey was chasing one of the
family's two kittens and went behind the dryer, where he apparently touched an outlet and a metal
duct, police said.

The kitten was found alive in a corner behind the dryer when police arrived at the family's home in
the 900 block of E. Sharon Ave., officers said.

Casey was a first-grader at nearby Lucille Umbarger Elementary, said Rick Jones, the Burlington-
Edison School District superintendent.

"He was a very happy young man, and he loved school," Jones said. "He loved being in school
and playing with his friends. He'll be missed."

Counselors were available Friday for any students or staff who were affected by the boy's death,
Jones said.

"We are very sad about this accident and our thoughts are with his family at this time," Jones said.

Casey Bradshaw Pritchard

Casey B. Pritchard was taken to heaven on October 23, 2003. With his beautiful smile, his happy voice, his sunny
disposition, and his need to care for everyone, he has left us to do God's bidding.

Casey Bradshaw Pritchard was born September 10, 1996 in Mount Vernon, to Sherri (Hartman) and Bradley Pritchard
of Burlington. He attended Little People's Preschool in Sedro-Woolley and Lucille Umbarger Elementary in Burlington,
where he was in the first grade. Casey B. knew no strangers and quickly offered everyone a warm welcome, his big
smile, and a hug for anyone who needed one. He thoroughly enjoyed life, especially helping his Dad with race cars
and construction projects. He just recently began racing quarter midget sprint cars, much to his delight. This
Halloween he was looking forward to being, "Albert Einstein, the smartest man I know, besides Dad." He also enjoyed
his mothers cooking, because she is, "the best cook in the world."

Survivors include his parents, Brad and Sherri at home; his dear, little brother, Andrew Paul; grandparents, George
and Carol Poppe of Burlington, and Kathy Harris of Marysville; aunts and uncles, Laura and Doug Henderson, Dave
